PastForward is Here: A New Way to Learn Australian History & Civics
Tru South Consulting is thrilled to announce the launch of PastForward, an exciting new education and cultural learning initiative designed to help schools, teachers, students, organisations — and even lifelong learners — connect Australia’s past with our shared future. PastForward brings together interactive history, engaging civics learning, and meaningful cultural education to foster understanding, inclusion and reconciliation across communities.
At its core, PastForward is about empowering people to think like historians and act like informed citizens. Through dynamic workshops, hands-on simulations, curriculum-aligned resources and expertly facilitated learning experiences, we aim to build knowledge, strengthen civic capability, and inspire thoughtful engagement with Australia’s story — past, present and future.
Centring First Nations perspectives
A key feature of PastForward is our commitment to embedding First Nations histories, knowledges and perspectives throughout the program. This ensures that learning is culturally informed, historically accurate and aligned with national goals for truth-telling and reconciliation. Whether exploring First Nations cultures, examining colonial encounters or understanding modern civic institutions, students and teachers engage with material grounded in respect, empathy and evidence.
School Programs: Incursions that bring learning to life
PastForward offers a suite of curriculum-aligned school incursions for both primary and secondary students. Civic education highlights include:
Mock Elections – full-class election simulations that build civic literacy and real-world voting skills.
Mock Parliaments – debate, negotiation and law-making brought to life through active role play.
These workshops help young people practise democratic participation, apply inquiry skills and experience the processes that shape our society.
History education highlights include:
Archaeology & material culture — simulated digs, artefact handling and inference exercises to teach historical method.
Source analysis workshops — interpreting primary sources (letters, images, maps), corroboration and provenance tasks.
Australia at War — interactive case studies (Gallipoli, Western Front, WWII home front, conscription debates etc) including source analysis and historiographical activities.
Professional learning for teachers
Teachers will be able to access practice-focused, evidence-informed professional learning, delivered online or onsite. PL sessions include Australian History and Civics pedagogy, First Nations content integration, assessment design, and classroom-ready units mapped to Australian and Victorian Curriculum. Whether for Foundation–Year 10 classrooms or VCE/senior student life-skills support, PastForward provides practical tools that strengthen teacher confidence and student outcomes.
Beyond the classroom: Community Learning & ANZAC touring support
PastForward also supports learning outside school for individuals and groups through our History@Home and Community Learning programs. In addition, we offer expert guidance for schools/clubs/organisations planning ANZAC battlefield tours to France, Belgium and the Gallipoli Peninsula.
Our PastForward website is coming soon — bringing Australia’s history and civic story to life in powerful, engaging and meaningful ways.
